#FFMarchMiles FitFluential Challenge

For a few years now, I’ve been using the Nike+ app to track my running miles.  I enjoy using it so much, I’ve convinced my mom and brother to use it.  In January, I challenged my mom and brother to run/walk 30 miles.  Sadly, I failed miserably.  I ended up with 18.8 miles out of the 30 miles.

So, in February my mom set up the challenge to run/walk 30 miles.  While I ended up with 35 miles in preparation for the Electrodash 5k, she blew me out of the water with over 50 miles!  Go mom!

So, here’s the challenge for March! I know I’m a few days late, but better late than never I always say.

FitFluential has a new challenge for March, #FFMarchMiles.  The challenge is to run/walk/hike 100 miles in March.  If you needed additional encouragement to get out there, FitFluential will choose two winners who will receive complete Reebok outfits including their new ZQuicks.  All you need to do is use the #FFMarchMiles hashtag on Twitter and Instagram to participate.

I love Reebok’s commercial.  I’m pretty sure those runners had a blast creating the video.  One of my favorite things about going on vacation is running “in the city” as opposed to the dreaded treadmill.  As much as I love running around  my neighborhood roads/sidewalks, it gets a little boring after a while.

Being that I’m running the ElectroDash 5k on March 22, I will take this challenge and hope to reach a 100 miles in March!  I’ve downloaded the Runtastic Pedometer app to count my daily steps.  Did you know it takes between 2000 to 2500 steps to cover a mile?

Have you set any goals for March?

What do you think of Reebok’s ZQuick commercial?

Friday Favorites – Week 2/28

Hi Friday!  It’s time for this week’s Friday Favorites.  The Florida Strawberry Festival is finally here!  I’m looking forward to heading there with the girls hopefully this weekend.  If not, we’ll surely be there on Monday for Parade Day.  They are so excited to go and see some of their friends walk in the parade.  Here’s my list of Friday Favorites:

  • Mizuno Hitogami

Friday Favorites Mizuno Hitogami

As you may know, I recently received a free pair of the Mizuno Hitogami running shoes from Mizuno and FitFluential.  I received the shoes while participating in a twitter chat.  I’m a big fan of Mizuno running shoes, in fact I only own Mizunos.  I normally run with the Wave Riders so I was really curious to see how the Hitogamis would perform.  I’ve tried them on the road and on the treadmill this week and they are definitively a keeper.  They are lighter than my Wave Riders and they feel sturdier like the Wave Riders 15.  I must say I also love the color combination of the shoe.  I wasn’t sure about the shoe laces because they are like a rope, but they stayed tied just fine.  If you are interested in winning free stuff, or getting great discounts on athletic equipment, check out FitFluential.

  • Marshmallow Oaties

Three Sisters Marshmallow Oaties

My girls love Lucky Charms, but I’m not sure I like all of the ingredients.  I saw Three Sisters Marshmallow Oaties while shopping at Whole Foods Market a while back.  They were on sale buy one, get one free so I felt better about buying them in case my girls did not like them.  They are all natural sweetened whole grain toasted oat cereal with marshmallows with “no phony flavors or colors”.   They were a big hit with my girls.  I’ve grabbed a couple of bowls myself and they taste really good.  We are on our second bag and I will be purchasing this product again next time I go to Whole Foods.

  • Michaels Stores Craft Classes

Friday Favorites

Learning how to knit has been on my to do list for quite some time now.  So, I was thrilled when my daughter asked me if I could take her to a crochet class at our local Michaels.  They’ve been going to Michaels on the weekend for Rainbow Loom classes, so I figured why not.  I get to try something I’ve wanted to do for a while and I get to bond with my daughter.  We had so much fun.  The teacher was super nice and very patient.  Apparently even though I’m right handed, I was crocheting like a left handed person.  Zoe had a great time and she was super proud of her knitting.  We’ve even knitted at home together a couple of times.

I hope you all have a great weekend.  For more Friday Favorites, visit Heather at Housewife Glamour.

Top three things to do at the Florida Strawberry Festival

I’ve been attending the Florida Strawberry Festival for about 15 years now.  Even when we lived in South Florida we still made it to the Festival every year.  It’s amazing to see how the Festival has evolved.  Now with the girls it’s even more fun.  Driving to the market becomes more interesting in the weeks leading up to the Strawberry Festival because the girls start noticing all of the trailers with the rides.  But for me, I start noticing all of the fair food trucks. So here’s a list of my top three things to do/eat at the Florida Strawberry Festival!

1. Amish Donuts

Florida Strawberry Festival

Do not miss this.  I mean it.  Do not miss this.  If you miss this, please don’t say you love donuts.  These donuts were amazingly good.  They are freshly made right in front of you and taste like a little bit of heaven.  Let’s just say that I went to the Florida Strawberry Festival a few times last year and each time I went I somehow managed to eat one of these.  They also have handmade pretzels, which are great too, but I prefer the donuts.  So, if the weather cooperates tonight, I’ll be heading for one of this as soon as I get there.  I will be guilty of eating my dessert first.

2. See a Concert

Florida Strawberry Festival

Last year we went to see Foreigner at the Florida Strawberry Festival.  This year we plan on going to see STYX, if the weather holds.  Plan on bringing a light jacket as it can get pretty chilly at the concerts.  Some even bring blankets.  Although there is an extra fee for the concerts, there are free seats available for all concerts on a first come, first seated basis.  Here’s a list of this year’s entertainment.

3. Ride the rides

Florida Strawberry FestivalOne of my favorite things about the Florida Strawberry Festival as a parent, is that they have two small children designated areas.  These children areas are located at both east and west end of the Festival grounds.  We usually do one or the other.  The girls enjoy all of the children rides and we enjoy not having to run around big stretches to find their favorite rides.  Normally we go to the east end children area because it feels bigger and that’s where the Amish donuts sets up.

And of course, my other favorite thing to do at the Strawberry Festival is visit our booth.  We take a picture of the girls there every year.
